an audience with Shiela Hancock

One of Britain’s national acting treasures, Sheila is sharp-as-a-pin and witty with it, so you can expect lots of entertaining anecdotes from her long stage and screen career. Famously the real-life wife of John Thaw – TV’s late Chief Inspector Morse – her touching autobiography The Two of Us won her a British Book Award for Author of the Year award. And she’s still writing, at 85!

Sheila will also be joining Nicolas Parsons, Maureen Lipman & Co for another special festival version of the long-running BBC Radio 4 show Just a Minute.

The Oldie Lunch

The Oldie magazine’s monthly Literary Lunches at Simpson's-in-the-Strand are an institution in London. According to a tradition started by founder Richard Ingrams of Private Eye fame, three guest speakers will address the audience for ten minutes after a three-course lunch at the Rock Hotel. With topics like the Queen, Brexit and famous Oldie cartoons on the menu, huge helpings of humour and sides of satire are guaranteed.

Diana Moran

The Green Goddess of BBC TV fame turns 80 next year and she’s still going for the burn. Diana will be spreading her mantra that 60+ is the new “primetime of life” with exercise tips for older folk and senior moments from her new book, Sod Sitting, Get Moving!

Stephen Dixon

The chap who starts your day with a Sunrise smile on Sky TV is famous for his dry northern wit. But in Gibraltar he’ll be revealing his softer side and sharing some stanzas from his first poetry book - Love is the Beauty of the Soul.

Matt Tebbutt

Like being on the set of Saturday Kitchen except you get to eat all the courses! The show’s popular presenter will be chatting while chopping and dicing the ingredients for a slap-up Opening Dinner at the Caleta Hotel.

Simon Weston

One of the most recognised faces of the Falklands War who survived horrific burns after his ship was bombed, Weston relives his journey from the edge of death to becoming a proud grandfather and national treasure.

An Evening with Jane Austen

This two-hander ‘duologue’ set to regency era music was a sell-out in the UK. Caroline Langrishe (Lovejoy and Sharpe) and Adrian Lukis (Downton Abbey, Pride and Prejudice) reprise famous characters from favourite Austen novels – from the ridiculous Mrs Bennet to the wicked Mr Wickham - accompanied by harp and soprano.

FESTIVAL RADIO

Jazz FM, the world’s greatest jazz, blues and soul station, will broadcast their weekday breakfast show live from the Rock during Festival week. Each day the show will highlight a tourist attraction or theme mixed with local interviews and chats with authors.
