Spain’s version of the pagan summer solstice rituals sees the Andalucia coastline twinkling with beach bonfires.  According to tradition, if you wear white and jump over the fire three times on San Juan night, you will be cleansed and purified – and you can go the whole hog by taking a midnight dip.  Along the Atlantic coast beaches it’s often a tradition to toss rag dolls (juanillos) and other effigies into the flames.  Whole families pitch tents on the sands and bring drinks and barbecue food for this is a sociable all-nighter so come prepared to party until sunrise. Unless you're in a big beach resort in which case the party will probably be laid on for you.
